Heart age

Cardiac age is the estimated age of the heart, taking into account risk factors for the development of cardiovascular disease. The model for calculating cardiac age can be based on different risk estimation systems. In our calculator, we use a model derived from the Framingham Heart Study. The system first calculates an individual's 10-year risk of developing cardiovascular disease and then provides a heart age that corresponds to the age at which a healthy individual with the same risk would be. Thus, if a 40-year-old male smoker with obesity, diabetes and treated hypertension has a calculated risk of 30%, this corresponds to the risk of an 80-year-old healthy male. The heart age in this case is therefore 80 years.
