Heart age

Heart age is the estimated age of the heart, taking into account risk factors for cardiovascular disease. It is a way of illustrating cardiovascular risk. Cardiovascular risk can be determined according to different models, in our calculator we use a model derived from the Framingham Heart Study. The system first calculates an individual's 10-year risk of developing cardiovascular disease and then provides heart agewhich corresponds to the age at which the average individual would be without risk factors. Thus, if a 40-year-old male smoker with obesity, diabetes and treated hypertension has a calculated 10-year cardiovascular risk of 30%, this corresponds to the risk of an 80-year-old male without risk factors. The cardiac age in this case is therefore 80 years.
