Smoking Severity Index

The Heaviness of Smoking Index is a test that uses two main questions from the well-known Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence: the number of cigarettes smoked per day and the time until the first cigarette of the morning. Based on the resulting score, cigarette dependence can be classified as low (score 0–2), moderate (score 3–4), and high (score 5–6). The index can be used to develop a strategy for smoking cessation.
