Risk of atrial fibrillation
The calculator for the risk of detecting first-time documented atrial fibrillation over the next 10 years is based on the published HARMS2-AF risk score. Risk factors in the HARMS2-AF scoring system include hypertension (4 points), age 60–64 years (1 point), age over 65 years (2 points), male gender (2 points), BMI ≥ 30 kg/m² (1 point), sleep apnea syndrome (2 points), and alcohol consumption of 7–14 drinks per week (1 point) or more than 15 drinks per week (2 points). The score was validated using data from the UK Biobank and the Framingham Heart Study. It has comparable or higher accuracy compared to other systems for estimating the risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation, such as the CHARGE-AF or Framingham-AF scores.
